We
can all agree that in the past three years,
throwback jerseys have been the gear of
choice. They have even overtaken past
choice gear such as the Coogi sweater.
Rather you are going to a game or to the
club, it really does not matter. If you’re
rocking a hot throwback, you will have
no problems drawing attention.
Nowadays if you are trying to dress to
impress, you throw on the best throwback
you have, in some cases, the only throw
you have and match it up with some nice
jeans and a fresh pair of trees or runs
and boom, you have a hot outfit.
However, there have been some drawbacks
to the throwback fever. Some cats out
here are taking this throwback fever a
little too far.
I’m just going to call it like I
see it. Some of these cats are perpetrating!
You have people out there wearing throwback
jerseys of players and teams that never
existed. You also have people wearing
jerseys that were worn by teams within
the last 5 years and trying to call them
throwbacks. No jersey worn by a team or
player within the last 5 years can be
called or considered to be a throwback.
Another thing that is irritating me about
the whole throwback craze is the extent
that people will go to get one. Throwbacks
are not a necessity, so if you cannot
afford one, you don’t need one.
These sporting apparel stores are definitely
capitalizing on this new craze. We must
try to put this whole thing into perspective.
Remember, most of these throwbacks are
not authentic they are duplicates. So
let’s not go completely crazy over
an item that is being mass-produced as
you read this article.
My first instinct after peeping all this
throwback madness was to say lets kill
the throwback madness all together. I
was really ready to just say no to throwbacks.
I later realized that it would be too
drastic a measure to take, especially
since I love to rock a hot throwback every
now and then. My suggestion is to just
fallback a little from the throwbacks
but not completely. Let’s keep the
madness and craziness down to a minimum.
What I’ve done is come up with a
few ground rules for rocking throwbacks:
1. Any jersey that was worn be a team
within the last 5 years (maybe even 10
years) cannot be called or even considered
to be a throwback.
2. Do not wear or buy so-called throwbacks
of teams or players that don’t or
never existed (Do the research or just
know your sports history people!).
3. Do not attempt to buy a throwback or
any jersey for that matter from a street
vendor or cheap as store (most likely
there not real).
4. Please, please do not tuck your jerseys
into your jeans or sweats (that just sucks!!!).
5. Do not wear the same throwback to every
event, which includes shows, clubs, parties,
etc.
Bonus Rule: If you cannot afford throwback,
you do not need a throwback. Don’t
go broke trying to buy one.
