One
day as I was sitting during a slow day
at work and started thinking, how throughout
the playoffs LeBron
James was the biggest news getter
when he hasn't even made a bucket yet?
"...the NBA is phasing
out college as the next level
or step for a basketball career,
because the wrong guys are
getting all the press."

The league (NBA) always talks about how
today's players are so much younger and
not fundamentally sound. Yet they have
a 7-foot, four-year college player, who
has crushed from day one in their face.
Tim Duncan to me gave a finals performance
that we may not see for along time.
This guy should have been the big talk,
a guy who went
and played four years at Wake Forest and
could have been the number one pick since
his time as a junior. The fact that he
went back and tried not only to work on
his game, but to also make that senior
season something special, especially if
you didn't win in previous years.
Players like Carmelo
Anthony, Jay Williams, and Chris
Wilcox all have won at the college level
and that counts for something.
Winning a national title is harder than
winning a NBA championship and for the
league to hype a guy who has
not made a bucket against a pro is ridiculous.
To me the NBA is phasing out college as
the next level or step for a career because
the wrong guys are getting all the press.
It shames me to say that the Cleveland
Cavaliers will almost play as much on
National TV as the Philadelphia 76ers
next year. Maybe as much as the Spurs
depending on how well LeBron plays early.
Yes, I will be hyped after LeBron crosses
somebody over and dunks on some poor fool's
head, but in the end I'd rather watch
two time league MVP Tim Duncan bust the
league’s collective asses on some
different shit.
What's funny is Duncan doesn't have to
rock throwbacks because his attitude,
work ethic, and entire game is a throw
back. In the future he maybe one the many
ghosts to comeback to games and throw
that monkey wrench in the opponents game
because he's in the building (For reference
see the Boston Celtics, and the presence
of
Bill Russell).
Next year the league should push in
a direction to help boost college basketball
and make these young boys see that the
game isn’t for the weak and sweet.
They should make all young boys play Atlantic
Coast Conference, Southeastern Conference,
Big 12, Pac-10, or Big East ball for at
least two years before they can enter
the draft. Most players that play in these
conferences make pretty good pros, especially
those coming from the ACC (For reference
see MJ or Tim Duncan).
With steps like these we can ensure future
players will not be rated on their potential
to just make buckets, but how many buckets
they can drop in the course of winning.
