Boy and tank
This gives some idea of
what those stone-throwing boys (who are
portrayed in the West as threatening militants
whose deaths are justifiable) are up against.

Checkpoint and men
There are a series of checkpoints
scattered through the occupied territories.
A checkpoint is a place where, if you
are Palestinian you have to show your
identity card (which has a different color
from Israeli identity) and a soldier determines
whether you can pass to get where you
want to get to where you want to go. Palestinians
often wait on lines like this for work,
or get to the hospital. The Israeli army
will tell you that they are part of what
he calls a “matrix of control”
that the Israeli army has imposed on every
aspect of Palestinian life. They are designed
to create conditions of a ‘negative
magnet’ that will force the majority
of Palestinian population to ‘voluntarily’
exile themselves.

Girl’s first
The resistance to the occupation
and the determination of the Palestinian
people remains strong. This resistance
is perhaps best expressed in the willingness
of people to try to live normal lives,
play with their children, go to work,
and enjoy food together.
