Robin
Thicke has quickly become a star in the
R&B genre bring up memories of Marvin
Gaye with his whispery singing voice.
The Evolution of Robin Thicke went platinum
with the mega hit "Lost Without
You" and the son of Growing Pains
actor Alan Thicke is certainly on his
own plane and continues to make his own
path with Something Else. This 12 track
LP has a old soul's song to it and will
get you moving with your partner on the
late night!
Thicke
starts with "You're
My Baby", a feathery track that
sounds like it would be awesome in a
small intimate setting with some background
singers.
"Sidestep" is great
to dance to and he talks about being
pushed to the side when it comes to love.
"Magic" is
the first single and it will make almost
soul genre fan stop and take notice!
The song just has a Sounds of Philadelphia
soul to it, if you know what I mean!
The strings on the song are alerting
and the the track sounds like a superhero's
theme.
"Ms. Harmony" is a slow
track with a island beach chair feel
to it. Thicke talks about things not
going as well as they could be going
and needing to be free.
"Dreamworld" starts
with a wicked organ and bass guitar and
a 60s feel to it. The track has a somber
tone to it and nice parts of harmonizing
in it.
"Loverman"
reminds me of "Concrete
Jungle" from the start but quickly
changes to the sounds of a marimba and
a Marvin Gaye/Sade Adu sound. Thicke
talks seduction on this track and does
it well enough to deserve some consideration
on your after-hours mix!
"Hard on
My Love" has a sound that reminds
you of his Thicke LP. This cut is the
second single, has a Rock & Roll
feel to it and you can dance to it and
feel right doing it!
"The Sweetest
Love" is a ballad for the lovers
and Thicke is talking to his lady about
why he's so fortunate! The title cut,
"Something
Else" is decidedly faster and groovy
allowing for Thicke to talk about diversifying
you lovelife and doing things different
to spice things up!
"Shadow
of Doubt" is
uptempo and fun but seems forced a bit.
"Cry
No More" reminds me of Andre 3000's "Prototype" a
bit but it's also my favorite slow cut
on the LP because of it's sitting on
the edge of river with a guitar and singing
nature.
Thicke
gives the listener a little talk before
jumping into "Tie My
Hands", a cut featuring Lil' Wayne.
This track talks about being put in a
difficult position and fighting through.
Wayne does his thing on this track and
talks about his progress and his native
New Orleans too.
Overall
a solid comeback from Mr. Thicke, I'll
give it 4 GeoGlobes.
