GeoReview: Keyshia Cole, Just Like You

By Clayton Ruley

Keyshia Cole returns with Just Like You, a she does a great job of giving you different sounds. She is a little ol' school and also something for this generation as well.

An example of this her cut with Too Short, "Didn't I Tell You", a racy cut that will make your neck snap back and forth!

"Let It Go" is a hot single for the clubs and the car and features Missy Elliott and Lil' Kim giving it a certain swagger.

"Fallin Out", is a slow cut that talks about a relationship that is fading away.

"Give Me More" reminds me of Amerie's cut Why Don't We Fall In Love" a little bit and Cole talks about needing more in a relationship because it makes her want search somewhere else for what is lacking.

"I Remember" is a classic sad song and a single from the LP. "Shoulda Let You Go" is another single from the album and Cole talks about holding on too long in a relationship and the string based track is produced by Rodney Jerkins and features Amina.

Another single from the album is "Heaven Sent", a powerful track that shows Keyshia's writting skills and her ability to write about details so poignantly.

"Got to Get My Heart Back" is a dark track and Cole talks about giving too much of herself to her partner. "Was It Worth It" is a track questioning a man about his mistakes.

"Just Like You" is the title track and Cole talks making her dreams come true and more.

Anthony Hamilton and Cole join forces on "Losing You", an uptempo track with two strong voices. Hamilton always sounds like he's singing for the church and he doesn't disappoint on this cut either.

"Last Night" was originally on Diddy's Press Play LP and was one of the highlights on an otherwise disappointing effort as Cole crushes a beat that sounds very Prince 1980s.

"Work It Out" reminds me of a rainny day full of confessions and Cole talks about seeing another man because she's not happy with her relationship.

For a bonus you get the "Let It Go (Remix)" with Young Dro, T.I. and Missy.

While I'm catching on later than most, this LP is awesome! It's filled with nice tracks and strong lyrics by Cole. Cole gives you her heart on this LP and the music accompanies the ride nicely. I'll give it 4.5 GeoGlobes. Her first album showed potential but this album was better and showed her potential in full color.
