GeoReview:Stephen Marley, Mind Control

By Clayton Ruley

"Mind Control", the album's title track starts the album with a jazzy sound and Stephen talks about how people and entities try to gain influence in your space and how you must be strong.

Mos Def comes through on "Hey Baby" and both talk about having faith that a special someone will come back despite the trails and tribulations outside of the relationship or home.

Spragga Benz, Julian Marley and Mr. Cheeks join Stephen on "Iron Bars", a song about being a prisoner and trying to get out! This doesn't have be a physical prison either it can all be in the mind. This track is an upbeat tune that you can dance to as well as think on.

Damian and Stephan talk about getting harassed by the cops and also hate in general in "The Traffic Jam". The beat features old school beatboxing and is real catchy. The roles of the officer and the car passengers are played by the brothers and it's no surprise this was the first single.

"You're Gonna Leave" sounds like a dream over a break beat! Marley talks about where he stands as a man in a relationship and the journey he needs to take especially with this particular lady.

"Chase Dem" is has a vintage Marley sound filled with a instruments and a group of ladies backing Stephen as he sings about politicians and corruption. It's important that we remember that politicians work for us and not the other way around so if they don't do what we like we
can get them out of office.

"Lonely Avenue" is 3rd single material and is a song you'd like to have on with the lights on and a significant other in your arms. Not sappy but soulful, this song talks about doing you're best even if it doesn't seem like it's good enough!

New to my ears, Maya Azucena sings and Illestr8 raps adding to the salsa feel to "Let Her Dance", "Fed Up "reminds me of a rainy day and trying to pick up the pieces from a faulty situation and Ben Harper joins Stephen on "Juna Di Red", a track that reminds me of tribes and being in Africa although the topic is in part about relieving stress and finding peace.

Overall I give the album 4.5 GeoGlobes!
