Boogie caught my eye with the Broiled Salmon
Mixtape he did in early 2006 with Ghostface
and once again the Ohio DJ does his thing with
the North Carolina group called Little Brother.
The duo (Yes I said duo, 9th Wonder is still
with the Justus League but out of the group)
of Phonte and Rapper Big Pooh continue to prove
why Hip Hop isn't dead and do it in a humble,
funny and dedicated way.
The
album starts Big Pooh doing his thing on a old
Jay-Z track and later with Philadelphia's own
DJ Drama of The Aphilliates talking about the
power of Hip Hop and congratulating the union
of the people involved with the project.
Then
the mixtape gets busy with "Can't Stop
Us", a great track with Marvin Gaye's "I
Want You" slowed down and Phonte, Chaundon,
Pooh talking about their individual heat in
the recording booths.
The
interludes are good because L.B. talk about
subjects most can feel like the relevance of
mixtapes, wack freestyles, favorite duos, Myspace
picture ediquitte and more.
Phonte
uses the classic Onyx "Last Dayz"
beat to talk about his experience working in
retail.
"Never
Leave" deals with selling those O's in
the community and how it leads to people getting
too fat for their own good.
"Do
It To Death" brings Rhymefest and Supastition
to the mix and all parties kill the track that
sounds like a carnival.
Von
Pea from Tanya Morgan comes through on "A
Word From Our Sponsors" and joins the slaughter.
Ray
Cash represents for Cleveland on a remake of
Jay-Z's classic "Bring It On" and
The Little Brother and Black Star form like
Voltron on "Let It Go".
The
West Coast is in the building on "Without
You" featuring Bishop Lamont and Jozze
Mo.
Joe
Scudda and
Darien Brockington from the Hall of Justus
come through on "Fan Mail" and you
also get to hear NC's best on tracks with Cormega,
Kardinal Offishall, O-Dash, Skillz, Oddisee,
Legacy and AZ.
Overall
a great mixtape with new and original collaborations
and songs I'll give it 4.5 GeoGlobes.
