Dilla
put out the original Ruff Draft
in 2003 after a falling out with his label
MCA. This EP was the beginning of his
move to the independent labels. The 10
track CD was critically acclaimed (as
usual when coming from Jay Dee) and with
the death of James "Jay Dee"
Yancey in 2006 has been reissued with
two bonus tracks from the original sessions
not originally included on the EP and
a additional CD with all it's instrumentals.
Jay
Dee was a MC and Producer and was probably
the best combination of the two and you
see on this album. While not the smart
ass say a Kanye (I dig that too!) is he's
humble and healthy on the mic. Try on
tracks like "Make'em NV" and
"Reckless Driving" for size
and see what I mean.
A beat knocking album and reminder on
the great loss music has felt (especially
on the beats) I'll give Ruff Draft
4 GeoGlobes.
