GeoReview: Hall of Justus, Soldiers Of Fortune

By Clayton Ruley

The Hall of Justus a.k.a.The Justus League is the North Carolina supercrew featuring members like Big Dho, 9 th Wonder, Little Brother, Chaundon, Joe Scudda, The Away Team and L.E.G.A.C.Y among others. After the success of Little Brother and several mixtapes by the crew The Hall of Justus has released a compilation album entitled Soldiers of Fortune . This 19 track LP features all members of the League's crew and features beats from 9th as well as Khyrsis and VA Producer Nottz among others.

The Highlights

Rapper Big Pooh of Little Brother (for now on to be known as LB) and Jozze Mo join forces on the 9 th Wonder track on "Try Me Again". Jozze Mo shows a tight fast flow on this track and make you want to hear more.

Skyzoo rocks his own name on "S>K>Y" and talks about his lyrical prowess on the mic.

"Jus Chillin" is the first cut I heard off the LP and the majority of the league comes together on a tough track talking about the club, ladies and the aftermath. This track is vintage dirty south and Trae, Big Dho, Chaundon, Joe Scudda, Buddy Klein & E. Jones come through and do their thing.

Little Brother talk about the game in "Life of the Party". Phonte talks about being the middle artists in the shows and how it's cool because there is still room to grow. Pooh raps about keeping that hunger after dropping the album and the benefits of being a hood celebrity.

"1ne" features Chaundon and he makes you laugh with his witty metaphors and comparisions.

Scudda raps with a chip on his shoulder on "Secrets", a track talking about why he's nice and slept on while "Feelings" brings Jozze Mo and Khrysis together on a hard beat and "Where I'm From" uses 6 rappers to talk about the 6 different places they are from.

"Movin Fast" along with "Seein Is Believin" are my favorite beats on the LP and the Cormega and Sean Price make appearances on the LP.

"Seein Is Believin" is the best track on LP in my opinion because it gives the reality of the streets a chance to shine and be seriously though of, mostly in a negative connotation.

"Tour of Duty" is a hard hitting group track that sound just like the title implies: a army march.

Overall this album is a good introduction into the Hall of Justus. I'll give it 3 Globes.
