Sean
Combs is a music mogul and founder of
Bad Boy Records and occasionally he puts
his musical goggles on becomes
"Diddy" or whatever his name is at the
time and puts a album together with the
best artists in the game. He's returned
to his artistic side with Press Play,
a 20 track LP with artists from Pop, R&B
and Hip Hop joining him.
Combs
has an appreachiation for different types
of music and it shows on this album but
it doesn't flow the way I think he wanted
to do because he's still more of the guy
behind the booth not in it.
Of
course there is hits like "Come To
Me" with Nicole Scherzinger, "Last
Night" (a Prince soundalike) with
Keyshia Cole, and "Tell Me"
with Christine Aguilera but there is also
songs where he gets in the way like "After
Love" with Keri, a fast paced summer
groove, "Making It Hard" featuring
Mary J. Blige and "Everything I Love"
featuring Nas & Cee-Lo.
Songs
that have good concepts get messed up
because of Diddy's insistence on being
on the track and he's only as good as
the person writing his verses (and I heard
that varies). Grab the radio singles and
enjoy the collaborations but you'll probably
want to skip Diddy's part on most of the
songs.
I'll
give it 2 GeoGlobes because at least you
can hear a lot of excellent talent on
the same LP but it's borderline. Would
Diddy have even done this if he didn't
think his success in the other realms
of music and fashion wouldn't have bailed
him out in a worst case scenario?
I
think not!
