Remy
Ma has been expected to shine since she
blasted her way through the booth on Big
Pun's "Ms. Martin". This lady has a rhyme
grit and determination that can go against
any man or woman in the game and now over
half a decade later it is her time. Let's
check the album and give it a rating!
"She's
Gone" is a statement song done over a
dark beat. Remy describes her style of
rhyme and gives her challengers an early
run for their money. This song has the
murkiness you'd like to hear Remy on for
the majority of the album (personally)
but you know with sales in the picture
there will be more.
"Lights
Camera Action" is a fast paced track about
Remy being here to stay and why she's
the best female in the game! This is a
good track to hear in the car when you
are riding fast.
"Tight"
features Fat Joe and the Cool & Dre
beat is tight but the chorus leaves some
to be desired. As you'd probably assume
the beat is about how tight Remy is in
a host of areas of her life.
The
clubs were jumping all 2005/06 fall/winter
when "Whuteva" came out! The Swizz Beatz
banger features Remy getting her flossy
flow on while talking about not being
worried about what you or anyone else
has to say!
"Conceited"
is the second single we hear from Remy
and here she talks about why she's the
girl that has the goods we all could use!
This has been a women's anthem of sorts
but I question why confidence has to be
being conceited! Anyway, Scott Storch
does the beat and Remy rhymes catchy over
the flute-ridden track.
"Feel
So Good" features the young crooner Ne-Yo
on the track and Remy talks about some
actually love like situations. It's the
smoothest track on the album and sounds
like Ne-Yo could have used it on his album.
The
David Banner produced track "I'm" is a
nice track that Remy uses to show her
punchline skills on the mic! The chorus
has a you and me back and forth and she
tries to prove why she's the top lady
in the game.
Big
Pun joins his protégé on the Alchemist
produced "Thug Love". The beat is a definite
rider on the car, very reminiscent of
the west coast sound. Remy does a good
job telling a story about the love she
experiencing in the song and of course
Pun does his thing nicely (RIP Pun!).
"Secret
Location" is about the drug game and sounds
very good over the beat. Remy has no problems
calling herself the top dog (if you know
what I mean) and uses this track to show
that she can get unlady like when needed.
"Bilingual"
is a interesting track because Remy does
her raps in English and Spanish with help
from Ivy Queen. "Guilty" is my type of
track, a story track about a dark past
with a hard beat! "Crazy" is slow down
track that allows Remy to show her wittiness
again with the pen, Remy is joined
by R&B sensation, Keyshia Cole on
"What's Going On", a track about going
through situations and feeling up and
down on the experiences. Still is about
the past experiences that led Remy to
get to this point as a rapper. The track
is doing the song justice with a piano
beat and Remy talks about working for
hours in the booth and being a mother
and trying to be friends with people while
doing her own thang! She also talks about
her relationship with her brother that
is touching and surprising.
Lastly
"Reminisce" is about using her memory
to think about how far she has come.
Overall
I thought the album was filled with some
very good tracks but the placement of
them could
have been better. I think that her flow
was aggressive and she could
also do her thing with the punches. Remy
doesn't need to show how gangsta she is
all the time because she has a lot of
skill besides that but I guess that's
natural. Most people know Remy for being
on the mixtapes and I think she did a
good job not to disappoint. I would have
rather seen the track listing flipped
though and saved the mushy or storyless
stuff for later on the LP.
I'll
give the album 4 GeoGlobes.
