New
Edition has been around the music scene
since the early 1980's and took over for
the Jackson Five as the best Black male
group until Boyz II Men and Jodeci came
on in the early nineties. Now after
their last successful comeback Home
Again
they now comeback with One Love on Bad Boy Records. This album
is okay with a few highlights of the skills
the group has.
Ronnie
DeVoe, Michael Bivens, Ralph Tresvant,
Johnny Gill and Ricky Bell still show
the harmony of a group but their voices
aren't as flexible as the once were and
they depend on the beats and special effects
to cover up their limitations on the album.
Highlights
include "Hot 2 Nite", the clap
happy first single from the album, "That's
Why I Lied", a soft statement song. "Come
Home With Me", a Gill led endeavor,
"Re-Write The Memories", a NE
Heartbreak sounding jawn that could be
the best song on the album, "Newness",
a seeming part two to the "Re-Write
The Memories", "Feelin' It"
a fast paced track that will go good in
the clubs and "Leave It", a
song about doing what is best for the
other person and not being selfish.
While
it is great to hear New Edition back on
albums they need to stick to what made
them famous and not fall into the trap
of the 2000-generation. I think
they would have a audience if they had
more songs on the album like most of the
numbers 11-17 and not the first
few songs besides the initial singles
with crazy beats. They didn't embarrass
themselves though and could grow more
with more emphasis on finding their niche
market. You can listen to album
but will probably skip some tracks.
I'll
give the album 3 globes.
