GeoReview: Medina Green, U Know The Flex, The Mix Tape Volume One

By Clayton Ruley

The artist named Mos Def has been doing his thing for around 10 years and one of the groups he has worked with is Medina Green, a group with family ties to Mos based out of Brooklyn, New York. Now Mos and Illson Media bring to us Medina Green, Mos and Illson on U-Know The Flex, The Mix Tape Volume One.   Featuring production from Geology, HiTek, Supa Dave West, Posdnuos, Minnesota, Gerod and Mike Zumchak this album is something for those who want to hear more of Mos and friends.

The heat is on especially on a track like Beef, a cut in which Mos talks about what beef is in reality not in the music scene. Excellence is another Mos cut and he talks about his quest for the top of his possible success. Medina Green shines on cuts like the Soundbombing 2 classic Crosstown Beef featuring Mos, Double Rubberband Rap, Niggers Know featuring Jonell of Round & Round fame, Pump Da Pump and From Da Hood.   Illson does his best to get his solo voice out there with his best songs being O.G. From A Long Time and It's Nothin featuring Magnetic.

Overall this mix tape gives you more Mos and friends and there is nothing wrong with that. While some songs are borrowed none are bad and you could listen this album while doing work on other projects.   Beef is the best cut on the LP and Mos really breaks down the problems in the hood and in the world in an unusual format. Illson has talent and could make moves with the right crowd.

I'll give the Mix tape 3 Globes.
