GeoReview: Cassidy, I'm A Hustla

By Clayton Ruley

Philadelphia born and bred, Cassidy is a young man who
like most young men is in the middle of a lot ofchaos. You can tell from his first album Split Personality and this one is no different except it's way better. Currently under charges allegedly involving murder in Philly, Cassidy couldn't have chosen a worse/better time than this to put out his sophomore LP.

I'm A Hustla is a look into the life of young man trying to appease his fans with hood tales and yet still has the capacity to see more than the streets often have to offer. One minute he's talking about the normal street cred builders like selling drugs, women and next minute and then he's talking about worldly issues like ending poverty, babies making babies and gun violence. I guess that is life in its essence but it seems more contriving than
needed. Money over music is the motto these days.

The good news is despite the contradictions Cassidy
presents it all with banging beats and a lyrical flow that can't be denied no matter the topic. Cassidy is one of the best young cats on the scene and you can see that in songs like "The Problem vs. The Hustla", "6 Minutes", "Can't Fade Me" and "The Message". The LP features help from Hip-Hop's best like Nas with newcomer Quan, Fabolous, Lil' Wayne, Mashonda and producer Swizz Beatz. All this and those first songs we've like "I'm A Hustla" (original and remix) and "A.M. to P.M.".

I'll give the LP 4 globes.
