Capone
is one half of the group Capone N Noreaga
or CNN. While Noreaga is doing
Reggaeton with Daddy Yankee and Tego Calderon,
Capone has been on the grind trying to
get his solo debut LP out. After no major
company interest, Capone did his record
on Fast Life Music and this 20 track LP
is finally out for the masses to hear.
The
title is fitting because since the 1997
debut of CNN many observers have said
it was Capone not Noriega who had the
best flow of the group but as many know
Capone was doing a bid in upstate New
York when the classic LP The War Report
came out and garnered street respect.
Featuring
production from the Heatmakerz, Twinz,
Frank Nitty, SPK, The Screwface Music
Group and more the beats are mostly gritty
and hard which is perfect for Capone's
raspy flow. Capone of course talks
about his being locked up, the ladies,
being a literal soldier and missing fallen
friends among other things. While
not a classic effort by any means Capone
doesn't make you think of his tag team
partner when on wax but of what he could
be with a better team.
He
proves he can stand on his own when big
boys like Scarface join him on "No Where
To Run" also when joined by Devin The
Dude & Butch Cassidy for the funky
track "I'm Gone" and finally for the reckless
"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" featuring Raekwon.
He also shows he can display the flow
to do for dolo like on "The Manual" and
"Streets Favorite". Overall for
an effort void of the trademark 1 st single
this album is solid work. He can
do better with the chorus lyrical content
but he's aided by his voice so it lets
him getaway with more than the usual rapper
can.
It's
good to see Capone finally get out of
trouble long enough to shine on his own
music and while we all hope for another
reunion of CNN we know that Capone has
the skill to be more than an sidekick.
Now it's whether he can maximize
his talent.
I'll
give the LP 4 globes.
