Beanie
Sigel has always invited us into his world
through his lyrics. However, after listening
to The B. Coming
it's clear that his world has changed
and he might be finally ready to make
that transition from the Street to the
fame. These steps of growth are what Jay-Z
has spoken about.
Beans
reminds us that he's: ăstill circling
the block, I'm still cautiousä on In
the Air, the lead single, produced
by Heavy D. On the track, Beans calmly
weaves tales about how he trusts his instincts
and his feelings, a sixth scent, or his
ăSpidey Sensesä as he refers to it, to
guide him in various situations. Although
much has been made of the Broad Street
Bully's reputation for brash behavior,
Beans shows no signs of anti-social behavior
when it comes to collaborating with other
artists. Numerous features appear on The
B. Coming. The saving grace is that
they all appear to be true collaborations
where each artist's contribution brings
something valuable to the track. Beans
even enlists the help of Brand Nubian
to rock with him on the Just Blaze produced
Bread and Butter The Nubians
play their part on the track to demonstrate
just how much Sigel makes perfect use
of his guests on this album.
This
album is often dark in tone, perhaps depicting
the state of mind Beans was in while recording
songs. The B. Coming could actually
benefit from a light moment or two. The
album is tense while offering a lot of
witty poetry and insight. On Can't
Go on This Way, Featuring Young Chris
and Freeway, Beans asks: ăDo you hear
me or you listening, it's a big difference,
do you catch the lines or the hooks, or
is you still fishing?ä If you are a listener,
you are sure to uncover many jewels on
this album.
I'll
give The B. Coming 4 out of 5
GeoGlobes.
