GeoReview: Twista, Kamikaze

By Clayton Ruley

Twista is no new rapper he has been in the game, but he’s caught a hot streak of hits that have propelled his fast flow into the eyes and ears of millions. This Chicago native recently came out with the Kamikaze lets check it out…

“Get Me” uses an old school rift of Here I Am to let all his enemies and haters know that he is ready and willing to deliver the pain lyrically and otherwise. The piano keys and electric guitar set the beat off and it sounds like someone is walking into a door and trying to make a serious statement.

Twista comes out crazy in “Kill Us All“ where is lets people know where he stands and what he does to those who try to test him and his squad. This track is very fast paced and straight out of a Hip Hop horror movie.
The Bishop Don Magic Juan brings you in to “Pimp On” where Twista talks about…well pimping. Twista gives some scenarios featuring how he gets his ladies. The beat is definitely something you can do ride to on any coast and what would a pimp song be with Too Short himself spit game on wax.

“Slow Jamz” of course is Twista first single off the album and it features Kanye West on the beat and the first verse and Jamie Foxx looking out for the ladies with the hook. The song has rocked the radio and clubs for about five months and will be one of those classics that you will revisit in a couple of years and remember where you were at the time. The beat smooth but can get the party dancing and Kanye in particular has some really clever lines.

"Overnight Celebrity" is the second single of the album and once again Twista and Kanye do their thang, this time strictly on the beat and the chorus. The song has a hypnotizing beat and the drum programming and keys will have you nodding your head for days after you hear the song. Twista talks about finding the pretty female and letting her know you do her right. The breakdown in the middle of the song and the strings in the end really let you know why Kanye is one of the best young producers in the game.

“Still Feels So Good” features Jazze Pha and talks about just living in the hood and all the encounters you experience. He talks about everything from driving around to smoking with friends to picking up that fine woman. It’s all good and this song helps you unwind and appreciate it.

“Drinks” introduces the concept of having a good time with the liks (can you imagine that) and trying to get the ladies. There is nothing complex here except the beat.
“Badunkadunk” is the Jazze Pha produced track and Twista breaks down those women who have that nice posterior. Twista talks about the ladies in the club, the strip spots and the regular ladies walking down the streets of your choice. “I need a hundred ones”.

Kanye West lends his services one more time in “One Last Time” a song very different than his other entries on the album. This very murky and dark beat similar to “The Truth” on Beanie Sigel’s first album. Twista explains a situation where they have an opportunity to make some money but it will take doing something dangerous one more time.

“So Sexy” brings in the Pied Piper of R&B, R. Kelly on the album. Kells produces the track and Twista talks about a woman that looks so good and does everything you desire despite the obstacles. A track men and women you can ride to, you will want to find that special one.

“Higher” features two of the most energetic rappers in the game as Twista teams with Ludacris to talk smack about the CHI and the ATL. The beat is racy and is definitely a club banger. You will be able to bounce and get crunk to this all night.

“Snoopin’” is about that significant other that just doesn’t believe you no matter what you do. Twista lets the ladies know that trusting your partner doesn’t mean going through their things and not telling them. It means giving that person the benefit of the doubt till you have actually proof they are doing wrong.

“Like A 24’s” is talking women and shaking they booty like a twenty four rims on a nice ride. The “King Of The South” T.I. lends his skills to the track and gives a little somethin’ somethin’. Another one to bounce to, this track I’m sure will have the whole club dripping wet, that is down south.

“Hope” is Twista sentimental song and it feature Hip Hop crooner (no not Ja) Cee-lo on the track. Twista starts off with his rest in peaces’ and just spills about what he would do if he had more power to change things.

“Sunshine” uses Bill Withers “Lovely Day” and Twista talks about his trials and tribulations and how he is doing so well now. Anthony Hamilton gives great energy to the track on the chorus and you can hear the rich tone in his voice.

“Art & Life (Chi-Roc)” is the collaboration song with Twista’s unofficial team Rocafella records and it features Young Chris (of the Young Guns), Freeway, and Memphis Bleek.

The team holds there own and Twista looks to be a welcome and exciting edition to the team when and if he finally signs with the team. The beat is tough and seems to signify big change.

We will see…
Overall this album is good. The lyrical content suffers on songs like “Badunkadunk” and “Drinks” but the beats throughout the album are hot. Twista proves worthy of being a solo artist and his fast flow is nothing to sleep on. The guest appearances are timely but not excessive and he creates great music with R.Kelly and Kanye in particular He came back at the right time and surrounded himself around the right album.

I’ll give Kamikaze 4 globes.
