We
first heard of Theodore Unit on Ghostface
Killah's Supreme Clientele. The team was
led by Ghost and his protZgZ Trife Da
God peaked most interest but many wondered:
Would this mess up the Wu? Well thankfully
we know the Wu is still together but not
necessarily flowing properly. After the
release of his fourth solo album: The
Pretty Tony Album, Ghostface is playing
double duty and brought out his team:
Theodore Unit for all to sample. The unit
consists of Dennis Coles (Ghost) himself,
Trife, Cappadonna (Yes, he finally found
a home!), Shawn Wigs, Du Lilz, Solomon
Childs and Kryme Life.
On
the quick note.these guys don't talk about
the saving the babies stuff like the Wu
does but rather about street incidents
using witty slang and verbals.
The team is hot especially Trife and newcomer
Shawn Wigs and the album features hot
cuts produced by some under the radar
scorchers like D. Prosper, Emile, Self,
and K Def. Any team with Ghost's
lyrical skills and ideas on what an album
should have - sound wise, has a chance.
Don't sleep though, the surrounding
team are no slouches and prove Ghost wasn't
lying about his team.
Among
the hot tracks are "Who Are We?" featuring
Bonecrusher, "The Drummer" with Method
Man, "Smith Brothers", "Gatz",
"Right Back" and "Pass The Mic" but it's
all listenable if you don't mind not being
uplifted. This album is for the
mixtape (in fact it's called Official
Mixtape) scene and doesn't have a book
full of lyrical diversity except to put
the Theodore Unit on the map as a solid
team next to Tony Starks. The tracks
are short and most only have two verses
on it but still mission accomplished.
This is another example of Ghostface being
an underrated artist who needs to get
more shine.
I'll
give 718 the album/official mixtape 4
globes.
