Raheem
DeVaughn is an old soul in a new and improved
body. The Maryland native won a talent
show in Washington D.C. and that lead
to independent singles and mixtapes. Word
caught on in the local area and eventually
he was signed to Jive. Proof that hard
work pays off! His debut LP, The Love
Experience isn't just about the love between
two caring people but that is a heavy
focus. No, The Love Experience features
uplifting lyrics about people and the
community and more.
The
album features talented production from
relative unknowns until now like Supe,
Kenny Dope, Emmai Alaquiva, Fanatic, Kevin
Brown, Jerry Vines, Cliff Jones, Anthony
Bell, Pete Kuzma, Terry Hunter,Carlos
Martinez, Captn Curt, Big Bob, W. Ellington
Felton, Warren Lewis, Issac Jones and
Levi Stevens.
Let's
check the LP out and do our GeoGlobe rating!
In
the song "Who" DeVaughn talks about doing
the best we can and loving each other
because we all we got.
"Breathe"
is for the lovers doing their thing from
head to toe. "You" is the second single
and he's talking to that special person.
Who? You that's who!
"Sweet
Touch" talks about getting some of that
chocolate (but not candy) in a playful
upbeat way! It sounds like he's having
fun on the track talking about the ladies
like something totally edible!
"Ask
Yourself" talks about loving and getting
buckwild when it comes to taking care
of the ladies. "Believe" is about trust
on a slow beat perfect for DeVaughn's
falsetto sound.
"Is
It Possible" ask a few questions that
led to more questions and later a relationship.
It's a nice song and make you think of
the steps we all take when trying to talk
to someone we are interested in.
"Until"
uses the "Between The Sheets" beat and
talks about not giving up and not living
any experience but your own. "Green Leaves"
is a message song that tells people to
growing and make sure you look at what
you leave when you are flying by doing
your own thing!
Overall
this album was very impressive and you
can listen it while your working or playing,
in the ride or in the bed. He incorporates
a lot of genres of music and has a recognizable
voice that will take him far. You can
tell he's not just trying to be a flash
in the pan but someone with substance
who can command people to turn their heads.
DeVaughn wrote or co-wrote all the songs
on this album and you can hear some political
commentary in there along with talking
about the future and the children. The
overall sound of the album is unique and
switches often creating a good inconsistency!
It seems that he and his peoples just
jammed and let the tape roll and that's
fly and welcomed.
I'll
give the LP 4.5 GeoGlobes.
