Public
Enemy is one of the most respected and
revolutionary groups in what we know today
as Hip Hop. Chuck D, Terminator
X, Flava Flav and the rest of the team
held it down in the late 1980's and early
1990's on the musical powerhouse Def Jam
and brought black power and political
rap to the forefront of music with songs
like "Fight The Power", "Public Enemy
No. 1" and "Rebel Without A Pause" among
many others. Now for those who
loved this group or even those who missed
this great group in their prime can listen
to the core hits of the group as Def Jam
has recently released their greatest hits
and it will be a reawakening or revelation
to the ears.
Chuck
D, the group's main lyricist, has one
of the most recognizable voices in the
game and it shines strong in this compilation.
His strong face and frequent use
of the color black in his wardrobe scared
some but drew interest and fans in others
and made you at least take notice of the
Strong Island, New York team. Flava Flav
with his crazy antics (then and now) and
big ass clock made you realize that Public
Enemy didn't take themselves too too serious,
Terminator X was the scratching DJ who
had his name shouted out in the songs
all the time and Professor Griff although
in and out of the group was the strong
faced black man who led the militants
on the stage.
In
this one disc album has all the hits including
those mentioned above and songs like "Welcome
To The Terrordome", "911 Is A Joke", "He
Got Game", "Bring The Noise", "Shut Em'
Down" and "Prophets of Rage". The CD also
has a 19-page booklet featuring notes
from the songs and a history of the supergroup.
If you want a history lesson you need
to check this out and of course go cop
the real albums because there is a lot
more to hear and absorb!
I'll
give the album the classic 5 globes.
They made change did you expect any less!
