Of
course with the name Marley you would
think maybe this guy has something to
do with Robert Nesta and in this case
thankfully your right. Damian is the youngest
son of the great Bob Marley and has been
performing since he can remember. Born
in 1978 he brings the world of Reggae
together with Soul and Hip Hop that permeates
his lifetime.
While
this isn't his first album (Mr. Marley
(1996) and Halfway Tree (2001) came before
this) I can't remember one song that he
has done getting as much play in the states
as the single currently playing aptly
named the same as the album it resides
on. Damian has the world
at his feet but is he ready to jump into
the fire and will he come up smiling?
Read on for another GeoReview.
"Confrontation" starts the album
out like a political movie with names
of impoverished places and situations.
Bunny Wailer's and Marcus Garvey's words
are both used to convey the messages on
the track and Marley speaks on some warlike
situations.
"There For You" is Marley talking
to the higher power and his peoples and
is speaking on how grateful he is for
what he has and doesn't have. All this
over a string laden track and smooth track
that you can dance to slowly or sleep
to. Yes, it's that type of sound!
"Welcome To Jamrock" is the
first single and Marley introduces people
to the Jamaica he knows not the tourist
attraction often advertises. The video
is especially vivid and I suggest all
check it out!
Marley stakes his supremacy in "The
Master Has Come Back" a dance track
with a battle feel to it. The Chorus is
fast and the track follows suit as Marley
spits with quick furvor.
Brother Stephen Marley (also co-producer)
joins in for the fun track called "All
Night", a song that has the song
of a 50's groove with freaky/funky lyrics.
You can tear the club dance floor up with
this bouncing track with friends or a
friend (You know what I mean!)
A jazz feel is attained with Bobby Brown
joining in on "Beautiful", a
track that's definetely a future single.
Marley talks about a woman who has a mans
back and digs his style! Imagine that!
"Pimpa's Paradise" talks about
those girls who only know one mode: party
and going too far for the good guys so
she gets put in the box! Black Thought
joins in for a verse and Stephen comes
back for more singing. The team of artists
talks about cocaine addiction and how
it brings the girl down! Too bad she's
in paradise! But whose?
"Move" is a different sounding
track and Damian uses his fast flow to
talk about people moving for freedom and
their due justice on this planet. You
know? Things like great jobs, real living
for all! Exodus is movement of Jah people
and that's what he's speaking on! Fighting
the system and speaking up for ourselves
is the point of this song!
"For The Babies" is a song talking
about difficult positions the children
born and thought of have to come into
or not! The song especially shouts out
for parents to care more for their children
and do more for them. Fathers need to
be there and not be in the shadows
for their children! Stephen and Damian
talk about babies drug infected, parents
lacking wages and papas locked up!
"Hey Girl" uses the sound made
famous by Zapp & Roger and Stephen
Marley and Rovieta Fraser join in helping
Damian talk about that queen or king that
we are all looking for. This song is great
for a late night dancehall!
"Road To Zion" is a serious
song and the beat sounds like someone
making a journey to something special.
Nas is one of the few artists who fits
perfectly with this concept and he talks
about problems in the world and his own
personal life. Both artists talk about
doing
the righteous thing not the perfect thing!
Looking for answers this team tells people
to think less of the material and more
about the quest for prosperity for all
especially the children!
"We're Gonna Make It" reminds
of vintage Bob Marley and Damian talks
about the final hour not being here yet.
While its hard to stay focused, people
need to strive for the better life and
make keen observations of what makes people
weak and build to be strong! You can workout
to this track, dance or actually listen
to the words. Multipurposed is what they
call it!
"N 2 Deep" is Damian talking
about those situations that can put you
in quicksand and tells you to avoid them!
Shake your shoulders on this one and take
down some notes if you don't know excess
of anything is not a good thing. Be careful
is the strongest note of this song.
"Khaki Suit" features Bounty
Killer and Eek-A-Mouse and it's purpose
is to let the children and people know
that they have to be prepared themselves
and not depend on government and the big
suits to help over themselves. These words
are important (if you can pick them up)
because it's time people fought for themselves
before anyone else is supposed to!
Overall this album is blue fire hot! Damian
is Reggae Hip Hopper and his versatility
is needed in both genres. The beats are
fused with many musical styles and his
topics are (like his father's) ranging
and deep. He doesn't lean on his celebrity
status and that is refreshing!
Damian
Marley gives you a well rounded look at
Jamrock, it's culture and his experiences
in it. He also gives a vision on where
he wants it and the future to head. He
gets thoughtful, political and talks about
social injustices and mishaps while letting
you know he's a blood dripping man on
this planet and likes to love and have
a good time.
I'll give this album 5 Globes.
