GeoReview:Busta Rhymes, The Big Bang
By Constant

Busta has been one of the brightest and most energetic stars in Hip Hop since the 1990's and his time with the Leaders of The New School. We know that if we needed to had no instrumental Busta's voice would show us the musical light. He hasn't enjoyed the last few years in the game as his last two LPs Anarchy and Genesis didn't do as well commercially as his previous work but now he's on the legendary Dr. Dre's Aftermath label and its looks to be off the hook especially after his smash single "Touch It" and its remixes (there's like four of them)!

Busta has proven that he can still make a hit now the only question is can this early success lead to a more that decent album? Let's give it a GeoReview and a rating along with it!

"Get You Some" features Q-Tip and Marsha from Floetry on the chorus and Busta talks about what he wants in this time in his career and why it's a mistake to come at him. Oh, did I mention that it's all over a Dr. Dre beat!

"Touch It" is the first single and the Swizz Beatz beat will have you shaking before you hear any verse! Busta talks about a woman wanting to do things to and with him and most of its sexual. He also talks about the why people should be happy/cautious to see him in the forefront of Hip Hop again.

"How We Do It Over Here" features the very seductive Missy Elliott talking about sex over a beat that sounds like product of Persia! Busta, of course does his thing, speaking in a calm manner about having a good time in the club (and afterwards) and getting your fun on especially with a significant other! Another Dr. Dre banger for sure!

DJ Scratch (of EPMD fame) does The Empire State and the Big Apple justice with his beat for "New York Shit" featuring Swizz Beatz on the track! Busta and Swizz both do their thing on this heat rock talking about what makes their city great. They make sure to point out clothing styles, community identifiers and great artists from NYC!   Oh, and if you get a chance peep Talib Kweli and Jean Grae's version.it's off the hook! I like that one better!

"Been Through The Storm" features the great Stevie Wonder and is clearly one of the best track on the LP. On this track Busta talks about his past and the past of his peoples! It's a brief glimpse of Busta's childhood and the struggles he and his family had to endure to make it to where he's at now!

"In The Ghetto" is another fabulous song and it features the late great Rick James on the track! Busta takes the time to tell those who don't know about what makes the ghetto the ghetto! He makes those who live in the hoods feel   a gambit of emotions (good, bad and indifferent) and reminisce without overplaying its dangers and traps and the beat is crazy! I guarantee you'll be in the ride or the house jamming' when Rick James is singing about growing up in the ghetto!

"Cociana" is another street tale song featuring Marsha of Floetry that is self explanatory to a majority of our readers! For those who don't know it refers to something most people can afford and it's white and powdery and not anything you want to put on a babies bottom!

"You Can Hold The Torch" is a J Dilla production and features Chauncey Black (formerly of Blackstreet) and Q-Tip as they talk about the music business (especially Hip Hop) and how it's gone from something you did because (at least partially) you loved it and wouldn't want to compromise for the money or fans you wouldn't see in you neighborhoods when you went home at night! This is another of my favorites because the beats uses elements from Minnie Riperton's "Inside My Love" and Tribe's "Midnight" and it's good to see Busta bring Q-Tip to the forefront! Both of these MCs are Hip Hop's legends and they ask people to step they game up because they'd like to leave the game in good hand! Not that Booty shakin' isn't in good hands(LOL!) but Hip Hop has a responsibility (Yeah I said it!) and power to do much much more!

Raekwon from the Wu-Tang joins Busta talking about the hood on "Goldmine"! Busta is actually executive producing Rae's upcoming LP so it's good to see them get together on this simple story banger!

"I Love My B-ch" is my least favorite track on the LP and in fact I like the radio edit better! I think it's crazy when you place boyfriend and girlfriend terms in alliance with B-ch and Ni-a! I know this is for the clubs and the radio edit is better (Although chick isn't the most appropriate tag either!) But it's the worst track on the LP to me! It's catchy though, if you like that type of song and it features Kelis on the chorus and Will I. Am (from the Black Eyed Peas) on the beat!

"Don't Get Carried Away" is another Dr. Dre banger and this time it features two of the best MCs of all-time in Busta and Nas! I don't need to say no more! I'm really serious ! On to the next song.

Mr. Porter does production and sings the hook on "They're Out To Get Me", a track talking about shady people and change lives in real terms! While Busta doesn't drop names you can tell he does have those experiences as I'm sure people do even if it's on a smaller level! The point of the song is money can change everything! Word!

"Get Down" lets Timbaland get his popping' beat on the LP and Busta talks about a little of everything on a track that's for the clubs and those who need to stay up late! A lot of energy is one this track if you know what I mean! Red-light special!

Busta gets sappy (not a bad thing) on "I'd Do It All" with the lovely sounding voice of LaToiya Williams. The beat is amazing featuring flutes that sound like birds flying in the orient! The beat breaks down to something we'd hear in a drill team march! Busta talks about building with a special lady and what he'd do for and with her!

Finally "Legends Of The Fall Offs" sounds like a movie soundtrack and Busta talks about falling off the rap charts and out the minds of the listeners! The beat is very murky and you hear someone diggin' a grave for someone during the track! The song talks about your respect falling in and out the industry and talks about the music star life like it's life and death! Very deep concept and one of the few times I can remember it being talked about in more than one line,

Overall I was thoroughly pleased with this LP! Busta came back strong with plenty of hot beats and production from the games best and the some unknowns too! I like the fact that he delved deep into his life for inspiration and creative juices and that showed throughout 95 percent of the LP. My only problem with the LP is the I Love My B-ch track! It stopped it from being a classic in my eyes but that means little because we have the skip button these days!

I'll give The Big Bang 4.5 GeoGlobes!
