Most
know Consequence from Kanye West's College
Dropout LP and the 151-proof strong,
"Spaceship" . If you know your
rap history you will also remember him
from A Tribe Called Quest's Beats,
Rhymes and Life on which has established
himself as the unofficial fifth member
(Don't forget Jarobi!). Now Conse
is back and is a part of Kanye's Konman
crew. To help get his out before
his album comes out Consequence has put
out the Take 'Em To The Cleaners Mixtape
, a LP hosted by West and featuring
the Quence on a host of hot tracks produced
by West, 88 Keyes, Devo Springsting, Baby
Paul and 9 th Wonder.
So
Soulful featuring Kanye and Washington
D.C. native Khayree, is one of
the hottest tracks on the album.
The track is really a soulful track with
John Legend on the ad-libs and chorus
doing his thing and the rest getting down
on the rapping side. Khayree reminds
you of Kanye himself with his rap flow.
The bridge is really truthful and
makes you reflect on what's going on in
your world.
Newcomer
Rhyme Fest and Consequence go back and
forth on "Yard 2 Yard" a track produced
by West. The track talks about
the life and the hood trials and tribulations.
"Doctor,
Doctor" talks about a woman who can't
get enough of Consequence's style and
flow over a 88 Keyes beat.
"Wack
N*ggas" one of the hottest tracks on the
LP and it features Common, Kanye, Talib
Kweli and they talk about guys who try
to hard to be nice and come off wack.
They also talk about those who
shuck their responsibilities and/or don't
do enough. For example: if you
got a brand new Benz but you live in the
pjs you are a wack n*gga! How about
getting out the pjs first! This track
is all about different types of wackness.
"N*ggas
Tried To", the freestyle is over the "Rewind"
beat from P Diddy's Forever LP
and Consequence spits on how someone tried
to gets his stuff without asking first.
"03
'Til Infinity (Freestyle)" features Kanye
and they use the classic song from the
Souls of Mischief: "93 'Til Infinity"
and this hot duo talks about how they
are chilling in 2003 and afterwards.
"You
and Your N*ggas" is about being the middleman
in baby momma and father drama and not
trying to be in the middle anymore!
Stay Bent produces this guitar-laced
track and Quence does his best to explain
the problems in this situation.
"I
See Now" is the best track on the LP,
as Little Brother joins Quence and Kanye
on a 9 th Wonder banger and talk about
finally peeping those certain people steez
(or motives, personalities) and being
ready to come hard. This combination
is one I would love to see in the future
because West and 9 th are two of the if
not the hottest producers in the game
and they are masters at bring that soul
sound to Hip Hop through samples and sounds.
"And
You Say" features John Legend and it boroughs
the sounds from "I Like It" from Debarge
to explain how you can't get enough of
Consequence's and the Konman crew's style.
"Getting
Out The Game" is another real treat on
the album and could be a top three song
on the LP. You hear emotion and
emphasis on the sung parts and Kanye and
Consequence talk about leaving the game.
West produces the track and it
is crazy. The song reminds you
of an old Al Green cut (before the grits),
it's heavy on the bass guitar and the
strings are amazing. The singer
on the song is a star on the bridge as
well.
"Take
It As A Loss" takes you back to the 70's
and Consequence and Kanye go back and
forth and talk about women and the hood.
Consequence's fast flow is impressive
on this track.
"Trains"
is a slower track than most on the album
and Consequence talks about roaming the
streets of New York and encountering different
scenarios and how he dealt with them.
Consequence
represents for the Konman crew on the
"Super Good Pt. 2 Freestyle" and that
leads to a straight drinking track "The
Incredible Hulk" featuring John Legend
and 88 Keyes. Of course this track
is for the ladies as they talk about having
a good time with drinks and how it can
change a scene up!
"Turn
Ya Self In" is a bonus track and Consequence
talks about not doing all the things that
will leave you dead or in jail. This includes
messing with that female who spells drama
or doing that crime for the quick cash
but is really risky. Consequence
shows his storytelling skills on this
track and this has album potential.
Another
bonus track has cousin Q-Tip joining Conse
on "The Consequence" a track that sounds
like it was made by the Uhmah.
Tip just does the chorus but it's still
feels good to hear him on the track.
Overall
the mixtape was hot, you can listen to
it from beginning to end but you have
to wonder how much Kanye's and company's
influence had on that. Consequence
proves to be a nice rapper but lyricist
is still undetermined. The beats
are crazy and he has a good amount (about
8 or 9) of album quality songs on it.
In the future I would like to see
Conse spit on more track solo like he
did on "Trains". Conse shows potential
to be nice for a long time.
I'll
give the mixtape LP 3 globes, the sound
is hot but you still want more of Conse
at the end.
