If the music industry were setup just
like the sports industry, Mobb Deep would
have been one of the biggest and best
acts to hit the free agency market this
summer. Maybe that’s what they had
in mind when they titled their latest
Album, Free Agents. Mobb Deep who were
formally on Columbia Records, are now
free agents and are looking to sign to
another major label. But with more than
ten years in the game, Mobb Deep is not
just looking for just another deal to
sign.
As Prodigy puts it on the remade track
“Paid in Full”, “the
next contract we sign will be monumental”.
Mobb Deep is looking to owners in the
game with their own label Infamous Records,
which in my opinion is well deserved.
With this latest effort, Free Agents,
Mobb Deep won’t have to wait long
before the industry starts rushing their
door. Free Agents is classic Mobb Deep.
The kings of murda music are true to form
on this joint. With killa beats and hot
lyrics, the Mobb will really have ya’
head noddin’.
Prodigy is still deadly with the flow
and Havoc is a monster on the board. Of
course Mobb get their usual help-outs
from Rapper Noyd, Infamous Mobb, and Alchemist.
The surprise of the album, however, is
the much improved rhyme skills of Havoc.
Havoc has really stepped up his game as
an emcee. Havoc really shines on tracks
like, “Favorite Rapper” and
“The Illest”, showing that
he is more than just a sidekick or a beat
maker for Prodigy.
There are very few, if any, low points
on this Album. Overall, I say Mobb Deep’s
Free Agents is a must have. This recommendation
is not only for the hardcore Mobb fans,
but also for anyone who just want to hear
a good rap album.
