They
are pioneers and are respected worldwide
for their Hip Hop infused with blues,
jazz, funk and soul.
You can hear their influences in today’s
groups such as The Roots, Outkast, Little
Brother, Black Star and Slum Village.
They are talking of comeback but we all
know talk is cheap. Give us results!
Who am I speaking of?
A Tribe Called Quest, of course.
Their first three album were considered
classic People‘s Instinctive Travels
and Paths Of Rhythm, The Low End Theory,
and Midnight Marauders the group went
through growing pains and put out two
lesser but still better than most albums
in Beats, Rhymes and Life and The Love
Movement.
The group split with Ali Shaheed Muhammad
doing production work for Lucy Pearl and
others and Q-Tip and Phife Dawg doing
their solo things (Amplified and Ventilation:
Da LP, respectively) but it wasn’t
the same. We needed the back and forth
the chemistry that made us love Hip Hop.
So to Tribe please come back and do your
damn thing! We have missed you presence
in the game and with you guys back we
can start returning to basics of Hip Hop.
Check out my top 10 of the Tribe. Go to
your regular music supplier and check
these tunes.
