With
the decline of the economy many people
have been forced to change their spending
habits. This may be particularly difficult
for some during this holiday season.
However, if you are able to alter your
behavior at this time of year, when it
is most difficult, then it will be easier
to maintain it throughout the year.
Prior to shopping for food, decorations,
or gifts, identify your spending budget.
Determine how much you can realistically
spend in cash, without using any credit
cards. By using cash you will be significantly
less tempted to spend money on items
you cannot afford.
If
your alloted holiday budget is less than
you anticipated, it may be time to consider
what can be reduced or eliminated. Can
you buy different types of foods? Host
a potluck instead? Rather than purchasing
every gift perhaps you can make some.
A plate of homemade fudge or cookies
is often a welcomed gift.
The holidays are often a stressful
time for many people. There is the
pressure of travel, family visits,
shopping, and finances. This year,
eliminate some of the stress by purchasing
only what you can and are willing
to afford. As you enter the New Year,
you will thank yourself for having
less stress about the incoming
bills.
