In 2005, Dave Chappelle got together his
favorite
Hip Hop and R&B artists in NYC for
a good ol' fashion block party! The film
directed by Michael Gondry show the process
of getting the party together from the
location, marching band and the crowd
and you get a glimpse
of Chappelle, the person away from the
microphone.
The show features Talib Kweli, Common,
Kanye West Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, The
Roots, Dead Prez, and the reunion of The
Fugees! You get to see how Dave buses
in people from all walks of life in his
home of Ohio to be witnesses to the concert
and their reactions and views on Chappelle.
Also he give the Central State University
Marching Band. an opportunity to perform
as well. Corey Smith of Blacksmith Entertainment
does the music supervision and it's good
to see these artists, favorites of mine
and Dave also, get their chance to shine
with an audience that is without a doubt
more than usual!
Dave does his thing in the movie, making
people laugh throughout but the point
of the party is more than him but of the
music and the message that the music and
trip is sending overall.
A old school concept with new school players
this is a excellent see for fans of Chappelle
and of the artists.
The DVD could have had more bonus features
but I will still give the DVD 4 GeoGlobes
for the message.
