GeoBooks: Charles Hirshberg, ESPN25
Reviewed By Clayton Ruley

ESPN is the premiere network for sports and has been for quite a while. Before ESPN the only sports you got on TV was local based and was only for 10 minutes tops. Now you can see sports everyday and night (if you have cable at least).   Now at its 25 th anniversary the people at ESPN have released a book aptly titled ESPN25 with years of highlights and athletes.

The book is 140 pages full of color and includes a foreword by the longest tenured sportscaster at ESPN, Chris Berman.   The chapters include Reinventing The Reel, Timeless Sports Arguments, The Greatest Athletes of the Past 25 Years and Piling On and Rubbing It In.

The book also comes with a fold of the "Greatest Athletes" special DVD hosted by Sportscenter host John Anderson with the greatest Sportscenter commercials.   This disk is the only of its kind and will have many laughing and wondering how do they think of these skits for the commercials.

The book includes plenty off lists including the best and worst of: sports quotes, trades, nicknames, uniforms and draft picks.   Also the book has the best slams, heroes, chokes and catches and goals.   It has a little bit for every sport but of course focuses on the four major American sports. The writing is comedic and witty and will leave you a little more knowledgeable about what ESPN's history is and how it has affected popular culture.

I'll give the book 4 globes. The book's print could have been a little bigger and more full-page photos could have been used. The DVD is hot but they should have put all the commercials on it with some explanations from the producers and actors in the skit.
